Salt Time JourneyBerchtesgaden Salt Mine
The beginnings of salt mining in Berchtesgaden go back to the 12th century. The mine was and still is an employer for many Berchtesgaden residents. However, the white gold was also the bone of contention for profit and trading rights between Austria and Bavaria for centuries. In 1880, the mine opened its doors to visitors and to this day, with its underground salt lake and miners' slide, it remains an exciting and interesting attraction for young and old alike. In 1517, more than 500 years ago, the Petersberg adit was struck and thus the mine was founded.
