The Kehlsteinhaus - Eagles Nest
The Kehlsteinhaus is located on the summit of the mountain of the same name at 1834 meters, high above the Berchtesgaden valley basin like an eagle's nest. That is why it is also called Eagle's Nest in English. It was built in 1937/1938 for representation purposes. Special buses, also with seats for wheelchair users, take visitors safely up and back along the road, which is closed to private traffic. From the bus turnaround parking lot, you can take the famous "golden" elevator through a tunnel carved into the mountain to the inside of the Kehlsteinhaus, or you can walk the remaining 130 meters on an asphalt hiking trail. Once at the top, you can enjoy the sublime mountain scenery and a 360-degree panoramic view on the Kehlstein circular trail.
