Advent and winter customs
Berchtesgaden is rich in traditional customs, such as the visit of St. Nicholas with his Buttnmandl and Kramperl to the homes of families during Advent. This custom always takes place on the fifth and sixth of December. The historic town center of Berchtesgaden with its festively decorated town houses forms the atmospheric backdrop for the Berchtesgaden Advent with its beautiful Christmas market in front of the Watzmann. Here you will find culinary Bavarian delicacies as well as traditional handicrafts and alpine folk music. The pre-Christmas season in Berchtesgaden is a truly special time with a wonderful magic. By the way, it is accompanied by the tradition of the "Christkindlanschießen" by the Berchtesgadener Weihnachtsschützen.
